TEAR Project with MTEX NS active participation

1st Famalicão Community Public Art Festival

MTEX NS excels in being an enthusiastic hands-on agent of its community, cooperating in actions that embody its commitment to corporate, business, environmental, and social responsibility.

The TEAR project, organized by A Casa ao Lado, Famalicão municipality, and the UNESCO Portuguese Commission, was embraced by MTEX NS since it is subjugated to unique themes for the MTEX NS universe, such as Textile, Sustainability and Human Rights. It is an action that promotes the territory and “Famalicão Cidade Têxtil” (Famalicão, the Textile City) brand, of which, with pleasure, we are part.

Implementation: An international multi-voice project

TEAR combined the educational and cultural program “From Famalicão to the World: contributions from Local History”, and took Famalicão school groups the proposal to, in an interdisciplinary curricular articulation, teach the syllabus of «Industrialization in Portugal» at different levels of education, relating them to the history and textile industrial heritage of Famalicão municipality, based on scientific contents of Textile Industry Museum of the Ave valley collection and the collaboration and support from the UNESCO Portuguese Commission, the Western Europe United Nations Information Center (UNRIC), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations University that focused the Human Rights theme.

The students thus built the ARTISTIC aspect of the themes under study, valuing and highlighting the «Famalicão Cidade Têxtil» brand, as linked to innovation, sustainability, the productive capacity of companies in the territory, establishing partnerships, bringing together wills and contributions from all involved.

This Public Art Exhibition results from different views of students, from different education degrees, from the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão and Galicia. The way each participant expressed their point of view about the themes addressed in the school context gives the opportunity to transmit individual values increasingly humanized through the ARTS and CULTURE.

The project had as participants the school groups students of Camilo Castelo Branco, Ribeirão, D. Sancho I, Pedome and Gondifelos and the University IES Monte Castelo de Burela, from Galicia, and as partners the companies MTEX NS, Jocolor, Érius, Fergotex and IRV Têxtil in supporting the production of the pieces on display.

TEAR will be available at Famalicão, with artistic experiences of silkscreen, painting and stamping for the school community and the general public until August 31st.
